TIP OF THE WEEK

Backup Scripts

Since the user home directories of the CCMST clusters are filling up at a steady pace, I would like to remind everybody of an easy and efficient way to compress and backup user data: backup scripts. In the CCMST wiki page there are examples of backup scripts for LSF and Torque/Moab. These scripts use the local scratch directory of the compute nodes to create the backup files, then copy the final file to the user home directory. Once the data is compressed in this way, it can be easily transferred to a different storage.

Do you have usage tips that you want to share with the other CCMST users? Please send them to Massimo (massimo.malagoli@chemistry.gatech.edu) for inclusion in the Tip of the Week section.
